The Person I Trust With My Banjos

In the player's own words, shared with permission.

I’ve trusted Kent “Boo” Gorsuch of Valley Banjo Works with three of my banjos—two Stelling's and a Capek—and the quality of his work has been exceptional. His knowledge runs deep, built on more than 50 years of playing, teaching, and setting up banjos.

Kent has handled everything from leveling a fingerboard and replacing frets, heads, and nuts to the finer setup work that brings a banjo together: bridge fitting, neck adjustments, head tension, tailpiece setup, and coordinator-rod adjustments. When Kent is finished, the banjo really does play up to its potential.

Just as important, Kent is generous with his time. You work directly with him, and he listens carefully to what you’re hearing, what you’re feeling when you play, and what you hope to improve. He never rushes you, and he is honest about the work he takes on. When something calls for expertise beyond what his shop can handle well, he reaches out to other trusted professionals. I value that integrity every bit as much as his craftsmanship.

I recommend Kent to any banjo player, and I’ll keep bringing him my instruments.
